lending services

For many, the staff of the Lending Services Department are the first people they see when they enter the building and the last they see when they leave. Most people know the Lending Desk on the main floor is the place to check out library materials, and that the staff at this desk are always ready to answer questions about the Library. But the Lending Services Department provides several other services as well.

The Lending Services Department:

Helps patrons borrow materials. This includes issuing library cards, helping patrons resolve problems with their accounts, and placing holds and renewals. And we are always happy to check out materials for you or to help you use our self-check out station. (More)

Selects the Library’s fiction, movies, and music. These include current bestsellers to classic works, as well as music CDs, movies on DVD and VHS, large-print materials, and audiobooks. We also offer a new Downloadable Audiobooks service.

Provides book recommendations. Members of the circulation staff may have suggestions of their own, or they can help you use Novelist (a library database that recommends fiction titles based upon your reading interests) or can point you to our Suggested Reads page.

Manages the APL gift kiosk and book sale room. The gift kiosk is the place to look for unique and affordable gift items for the book lover on your list, while the book sale room offers an ever-changing assortment of gently used books at bargain prices.

Manages our Online Requesting and Interlibrary Loan services. The Online Requesting System is part of our Library Catalog and allows patrons to borrow materials from other libraries throughout the state. Interlibrary Loan provides access to harder-to-find materials that are not available through the Library Catalog. (More)

Accepts your donations of used books. The Library welcomes donations of used books for our twice-a-year Friends of the Library Book Sale. For guidelines for donating, or if you have a large number of books to drop off at once, please contact the Circulation Desk at 333-6640 ext. 2.
